Karen Friedland

| Karen Friedland,
artist, teacher, community organizer, is the driving force behind the creation
of the Flatbush Artists Studio Tour (FAST). Friedlands work in a variety
of media acrylic, oil, pastel, watercolor, printmaking and collage
speaks a singular language, that of COLOR. The vibrancy and depth
of color excites the eye and delights the soul. Her imagery of far away
lands takes you on an imaginary journey, drawing you in, sending your spirits
soaring. Her extensive Chair Series brings you home to interiors that leave
you longing to be there. The realism of Friedlands people & animals
resides alongside their verve, quirkiness and joie de vivre.
As a special tribute to Brooklyn, Friedland's adopted home, she includes a hidden image of the Brooklyn Bridge in each of her works. It can be a real challenge to find, sometimes, even for the artist herself! Friedland is a master of color and design, always seeking new and greater challenges in her artwork. She has exhibited her work in solo and group shows across the country and has received numerous awards. An active member of Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (BWAC), her work is currently on exhibit at the BWAC Spring Ahead show in Red Hook, Brooklyn and during June, will be at the Clinton Hill Gallery. Last year, Friedland and co-leader, Brenda Becker, reached out to Flatbush artists to create FAST. Through hard work, perseverance and the help of other artists, in particular, Zane Treimanis, Kris Waldherr and Bruce Zeines, we have created this exciting event. In addition to paintings, prints and collages, Friedland
will be showcasing notecards and unique, one of a kind jewelry. Start
